Who we are

TradeEstimator is operated by Code Impact (ABN provided on request) based in Queensland, Australia. Questions about this policy can be sent to hello@tradeestimator.com.au.

What we collect

Anonymous users. When you use TradeEstimator without an account, we collect only the answers you provide in the estimate form (project type, location, scope, and similar). We do not collect your name, email address, or any other personally identifying information.

Signed-in users. If you create an account, we collect your email address and maintain an authentication session using cookies. We also store a record of estimates you generate so they appear in your dashboard.

Paid purchases. If you purchase a Detailed Estimate, payment processing is handled by Stripe. We do not store your card number or full payment details. We do store your Stripe customer ID and purchase records so we can manage your account.

We also collect standard server logs including anonymised IP addresses, browser type, and pages visited. These are used solely for site performance and security monitoring.

How we use your information

Your information is used to:

  • Generate cost estimates via AI
  • Maintain your account and estimate history (if signed in)
  • Process and manage your purchases (if applicable)
  • Improve the accuracy of future estimates using aggregated, anonymised data
  • Respond to support or privacy enquiries

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

How estimates are generated

Estimates are not produced by an AI model making unconstrained guesses. Your form inputs are processed against a structured set of reference pricing data and calculation rules specific to each trade category and Australian state. An AI model (Anthropic Claude) is then used to fill in the numeric values within that fixed structure.

The AI operates within tightly defined parameters. The output schema, category breakdowns, and pricing reference ranges are all determined by our code, not by the AI. The AI's role is to apply those parameters to your specific inputs and produce a calibrated result.

This means the estimates reflect deliberate human judgements about Australian trade pricing, not arbitrary AI outputs. However, they remain indicative only. See our Terms of Use for the full disclaimer.

Cookies and session data

If you are not signed in, we use session storage (cleared when you close your browser tab) to hold your estimate results between pages. No persistent cookies are set.

If you sign in, Supabase sets authentication cookies to maintain your session across visits. These are functional cookies, not tracking cookies. We do not use advertising or third-party analytics cookies.

Third-party services

  • Anthropic— Your form inputs are sent to Anthropic's API to generate the estimate. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to this processing. No personally identifying information is sent.
  • Supabase— Our database and authentication provider. Stores account data and estimate records. Data is held on Supabase's servers (AWS, Sydney region where available).
  • Stripe — Payment processing for Detailed Estimate purchases. Stripe handles all card data directly and is PCI DSS compliant. We receive only non-sensitive payment metadata.
  • Vercel — Hosting and edge delivery. Standard access logs may be retained by Vercel in accordance with their privacy policy.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile — Bot detection on the estimate form. No persistent tracking cookies are set by Turnstile.
  • Sentry — Error monitoring and performance tracking. Error reports may include anonymised technical context such as browser type, page URL, and stack traces. No personally identifying information is intentionally included.

Data retention

Anonymous estimate data may be retained indefinitely in aggregated form for service improvement. Personally identifying account data is retained until you request deletion. Payment and billing records are retained for 7 years as required by Australian tax law.

Your rights

If you have a TradeEstimator account, you can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by emailing hello@tradeestimator.com.au. We will respond within 30 days.

We are currently below the threshold for mandatory compliance with the Australian Privacy Act 1988. From 1 July 2026, the small business exemption is being phased out and we will be subject to full Privacy Act obligations. We are proactively aligning with those requirements now.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated by email to registered users where reasonably practicable.
